Steven J. Silver is a 1978 graduate of Rutgers Law School (Newark) and graduated in 1975 from Rutgers College with a B.A. degree in Mathematics. Mr. Silver was admitted in 1978 to the New Jersey Bar and the United States Court for the District of New Jersey. He is not currently admitted to the Florida Bar.
Mr. Silver is a former Associate General Counsel for General Electric Capital Corporation. During his tenure there from 2002 until 2008, Mr.. Silver was the lead lawyer at various times for the GE Technology Finance Group, the Intermediary Funding Division and the Marine Finance Division, plus was the Compliance Leader of various business units and a member of the GE Corporate Environmental Legal Monitoring Team. He was responsible for the structuring, documentation and closing of complex commercial lease and loan financing transactions including IT (equipment, software and services), vendor, marine, fleet, aircraft, healthcare, rail and middle market equipment transactions, both inside the United States and in foreign jurisdictions. Among his achievements were the following: being a Phillipe Award nominee of General Electric Company for his community service and charitable efforts; receiving the GE Commercial Finance Award for Experience and Leadership; being one of the primary legal architects of the GE Commercial Finance minority business enterprises policy; being one of the primary developers of the legal policies and procedures for the international expansion of the GE Technology Finance business; and, being one of the primary legal developers of the software-only financing product for the insurance industry and the software bundling product in general.
Prior to his tenure at General Electric Capital Corporation, Mr. Silver was Senior Counsel for The CIT Group between 1992 and 2002, and an Associate Counsel for Bell Atlantic Capital Corp between 1984 and 1992. During the aforesaid time, among other responsibilities, Mr. Silver was the lead lawyer for a Franchise Finance Business Unit, managed collection, litigation, bankruptcies and workouts and was responsible for the structuring, documentation and negotiation of all types of commercial finance transactions.
Mr. Silver is located in the firm's Ft. Lauderdale/Weston office. His practice focuses on commercial finance and commercial litigation matters, with an emphasis on the rights of secured lenders and equipment lessors.
