STEVEN SILVER is a 1978 graduate of Rutgers Law School (Newark) and graduated in 1975 from Rutgers College with a B.A. degree in mathematics. Mr. Silver was admitted in 1978 to the New Jersey Bar and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is not currently admitted to the Florida Bar. Mr. Silver’s practice focuses on commercial finance and commercial litigation matters, with an emphasis on the rights of equipment lessors and secured lenders.
Mr. Silver is a former Associate General Counsel and Senior Counsel for General Electric Capital Corporation between 2002 and 2008, for which he was the lead lawyer at various times for the GE Technology Finance Group, the Intermediary Funding Division and the Marine Finance Division, plus was the Compliance Leader of various business units and a member of the GE Corporate Environmental Legal Monitoring Team. He was responsible for the structuring, documentation and closing of complex commercial lease and loan financing transactions including IT (equipment, software and services), vendor, marine, Native American, fleet, healthcare, rail and middle market equipment transactions, both inside the United States and in foreign jurisdictions, plus supported the capital market and business development functions of several business units. Among his achievements were: being a Phillipe Award nominee for his community service and charitable efforts; receiving the GE Commercial Finance Award for Experience and Leadership; and being one of the legal architects and developers of the (i) GE Commercial Finance minority business enterprises policy, (ii) international expansion of the GE Technology Finance business and (iii) software financing and bundling products..
Prior to his tenure at General Electric Capital Corporation, Mr. Silver was a Senior Counsel and Assistant General Counsel for The CIT Group Between 1992 and 2002, and an Associate Counsel for Bell Atlantic Capital Corporation between 1984 and 1992. During the aforesaid time, among other responsibilities, Mr. Silver was: the lead lawyer for a Business Center; the lead lawyer for a Franchise Finance Business Unit; managed collection, litigation bankruptcies and workouts; and was responsible for the structuring, documentation and negotiation of all types of commercial finance transactions.
